EXT. EBLA - SHIP GRAVEYARD, NIGHT

Raffi and Seven as before. Seven still tinkering with the ship’s engine.

RAFFI:

Did you ever find her?

SEVEN:

Not yet. Records had her entering the Gorvan system, which was one of the last evacuated worlds. When I learned that Gillan was the most revered historian in the quadrant, I went back to Stalvi. Brought him here. And kept looking for her, any chance I got. Still am.

RAFFI:

Did you know he is over two thousand years old?

SEVEN:

No. What?

RAFFI:

I’m not sure what the Rangers’ databases are like, but Starfleet has records on this man that go back to the ninth century.

SEVEN:

I thought he was human.

RAFFI:

Unlikely. He probably was the most valuable thing on this planet. There’s no telling what Rynin wanted with him, but I guarantee it wasn’t just to kill him. If you really want to do this, let’s make a plan and do it right.

SEVEN:

Stand back.

Both of them stand clear. Then, just as the engine hum starts to stabilize, a harsh rattle is followed by a small explosion.

SEVEN (CONT’D):

Damn it.

RAFFI:

I love the fact that you don’t know how to quit, Seven. But this one is a goner.

SEVEN:

I’ll find another one.

RAFFI:

What is this place? It’s like an elephant graveyard, but for ships.

SEVEN:

Sometimes the Rangers find abandoned ships out there and tow them to safe planets. Mostly for parts.

RAFFI:

You guys really are holding this part of the galaxy together with your bare hands, aren’t you?

SEVEN:

I can’t just let him go.

RAFFI:

He really got in under the radar, didn’t he?

SEVEN:

I don’t know what you mean.

RAFFI:

I mean, in the kindest and most loving way possible, you keep people at a distance. On purpose. How did this professor who you can’t have known for more than a few days get past those formidable defenses?

SEVEN:

His letters, I suppose.

CUE: LOVE LETTER THEME

SEVEN (CONT’D):

The ones he gave me for Helena. I’ve read them a thousand times. I’ve never known a mind, a man, quite like him. He’ll go on and on about the smallest detail of a moment they shared, things most people would never bother to remember. But more than that, he adores her in a way I didn’t know was possible. I’ve never felt anything like what he does for Helena.

RAFFI:

True love, huh?

SEVEN:

He almost let her go when they first met. She wanted more and he wasn’t having it. But one day, he just surrendered. Made her the center of his universe. And to hear him tell it, every moment after that was filled with wonder and joy and purpose and all the things life is supposed to be about. Can you imagine losing that?

RAFFI:

I can’t imagine having it.

SEVEN:

No?

RAFFI:

Good times. Fun. Great sex. All of that, I’ve had. And then some. But somehow, I’ve never been enough for anyone.

SEVEN:

Neither have I.

RAFFI:

Something else we have in common.

(beat)

Come sit down.

Seven sits next to Raffi on the ground.

SEVEN:

(weary)

I’m still mad at you.

RAFFI:

It’s okay. I can take it.

(beat)

Do you remember when you first transported aboard La Sirena?

SEVEN:

Not really. Didn’t I pass out?

RAFFI:

What you missed was my heart stopping in my chest the very first time I saw you.
